Just gonna talk about this because it is one unique interview experience for me
I think I am not getting the job, given how harsh the selection process was
Around 25 people will be selected among 160+ interviewee
I am glad I at least made it into the second interview, as it was then I met some new friends
Here is the the events in chronological order
Phone interview
I was called in the afternoon of the day I applied the job on Jobstreet
I totally did not expect a call right after I sent my application in the morning, so I was kinda caught off guard, not to mention that I was actually eating durian while watching movie on my laptop !
So the staff who called conducted a phone interview there and then, after that I was told I would receive an email that contained information and link to an online assessment test
Online assessment test
So I did the test at night
It was kinda like an aptitude test, and it was bloody difficult for me
For one my English is not so good that I can extract information from a whole paragraph and immediately put the information to use
Also I did not do very well in the mathematics segment
Basically I was on the verge of giving up at the end and I just simply chose the answer
Therefore I was shocked when I got invited to the interview
Interview
It was conducted in The Garden Hotel Grand Ballroom
Interviewees were divided into 2 sections, which are morning and night
Each session consisted around 80 people I think
I met some new friends, and also met a few juniors of my course
Had some pleasant chat with the other interviewees and some current employees while waiting for my turn
Finally when I was summoned, I actually was not very nervous
There were some mistakes when I answer questions though, I think i gave the impression of too investment focused, thus I would not be fully committed to work in any department other than investment bank
Big mistake, knowing that SME business product is the main income of Alliance bank, I can tell that trainees are more likely to be placed in non-investment related departments
My interview was kinda short, so I thought I did not make it
Surprisingly, they called me after one week to extend an invitation to the assessment centre, the final phase
Assessment Centre
This is where the this interviewing process becomes interesting
The venue is the same, which is The Garden Hotel Grand Ballroom
There are 2 sessions in total, there are 80 interviewees divided in table of 10
I was assigned to Table 1, which is where I befriended the other interviewees
Before the assessment centre I was actually expecting like 4 sessions in total(from googling), so I deeply regretted I did not perform more when I found out that there were only going to be 2 sessions
We had to build a bridge using straw in the first session, there were some conditions, anyway I could not believe our team got the first prize in the end
But I do think my team mates were a bit excited after we won, I was thinking like we were there to get the job guys not to win this game la~~
Not to be a buzzkill haha but I think some were vert excited when they won
After that we headed for the second session, which is a debate session lolllll
And guess what, apart from having zero debate experience, I got a freaking hard topic, with 30 minutes to prepare
My group was split into 2, those who were already excellent in presentation got "E-wallet is beneficial for consumer"
My group got "E-wallet is not beneficial to consumer"
This is the kind of topic that everyone knows where to stand, and I am going to fight against the current on my first debate performance
The judges were the senior management of Alliance, all the Chief Officers and Head of department, can you believe the CFO was there ?? wth
Anyway we did our best, I kinda gave the point that e-wallet was so convenient it caused consumer to spent more, which is stupid
Most we could talk about was security, wifi down, phone battery usage all that stupid points
But hey, I was happy that I got pushed doing something I never did before
I am always happy going out of my comfort zone nowadays
At the end of the day, I came home with some good experience and memory
BY THE WAY, LUNCH WAS PROVIDED, AND IT WAS THE HOTEL BUFFET, MY GOSH
I sat with some other people and got to made a few more new friends while having a light-hearted conversation
BUT I kinda wished I had sat with some of my team mates though, because the CFO actually sat down with them to had some conversation, must have been quite an honor
