Hii guys, how's it going :)
Last Thursday afterwork, I found myself taking on my first Grab passenger from Penang institute to Gurney Paragon, a RM 5 ride, and totally uneventful.
Yes, I am a part time Grab driver now.
So in this post I want to talk about how much money I made in the few days I worked, and my experience with a few passengers
I heard most of my colleagues worked part time in their first year as a trainee trader, as our first year "salary" is definitely at the low side among all jobs, and it grow exponentially as you work longer due to both increment in the profit sharing percentage and the capital
So yeah, Grab driver is my part time job now
I tried 3 rides on my first day, just to test the water, and to make some money for my dinner that night
My second day, which is a Friday night, I intended to further test the money making potential, honestly I think Friday evening~night should be the most profitable period ? So it is safe to roughly gauge the maximum earning potential based on that night profit I guess ?
Oh by the way on Friday morning, I also used the feature "My Destination"(a feature that search for passengers who are going where you want to go, can be used twice a day. I searched for passengers on my way to work), so I picked up 2 passengers from Gurney Paragon to the area where I work for RM 9, and I parked at where I dropped them.
So for the whole Friday, my working hour, excluding the one in the morning, is around 5 hours as I work from 5pm to 9pm, but I reached home around 9 30pm from my last drop off destination so ya, then also plus the morning ride which I used "My Destination"
My profit after deducting commission to Grab and adding Time Booster incentives, stands around at RM 95, including RM 10 tips :D
So estimate I used RM 20 on fuel, I still got RM 75, which is roughly RM 15 per hour
That is not bad at all isn't it ? WOW ! Good pocket money weh
Today is Saturday, I plan to work as long hour as possible for today, as a mean for experimenting the max earning potential as a full time Grab driver
And also to make as much money as possible for now as my CFA study plan starts tomorrow :(
Now I realize the funny thing about being a Grab driver, is there are people who treat you invisible, and people who don't
For the people who do treat me invisible, they usually will interact among themselves as if I am not there, then I felt quite entertained haha
There was this guy and girl I picked up from a Hospital, apparently they are either pharmacists or doctors, and also I think they are in the midst of argument
The whole trip the guy was like apologizing to his gf, and damn he addressed her as Bao Bei XD
I also picked up 2 Thai guys I think, who wants to go from Komtar to Batu Maung
When I almost reached the destination, one of the guy asked me to go another way, and I followed his direction to a very dimly lit area, fxck it, there was no light source
It was the kind of destination where one who want to kidnap the Grab driver would want to do it at
Sooo it is a bit scary, I dropped them off at a wood factory, and he paid me RM 27 + RM 3 as tips.
I remained friendly :)
TIME SKIP
Andddd today is Sunday, yesterday I continued my Grab part time half way writing this post.
Today I am not doing any Grab as I plan to study CFA later
I had 21 rides on Saturday, I had to stop in the middle because my phone battery was dying faster than my power bank charging speed lol
At night business was super HOT ! The passengers kept coming without any break, and my wallet was getting thicker and thicker XD
From my 3-day Grab driver experience, I can roughly conclude that MOST MONEY are made within peak hour + incentives
I worked for 2 hours on Thursday, 4.5 hours on Friday, and around 8 hours on Saturday
A total of 14.5 hours
I made roughly RM 276.05 after deducting the commission, after deducting petrol cost should be around RM 200
RM 200 for 14.5 hours is around RM 13 per hour, which is QUITE GOOD as a super flexible non exhausting part time job :)
Also, basically I am the hello then shut up kind of driver, rarely will I engaged in any conversation
I don't speak unless I am spoken to
The only time I initiated the conversation was when I picked up a couple from Moody Cow Dessert Cafe, as I was curious about their opinion of the cake there
So yeah, my plan is to work part time Grab maybe like twice daily on Mon to Thurs, and all out on Fri and Sat night.
The RM 294 is before deducting the commission to Grab, and before including the incentive from Grab
