I started watching some movies that are very good but at the same time may not be a popcorn movie
In Malaysia cinema (or maybe in other countries' cinemas as well), they usually give a lot of showtime to popcorn movies that regularly require we audience to turn our brain off
I think I started watching some of the movies that are unheard of by searching imdb top 250, because I LOVE watching movies while eating haha
So after running out of movies to watch when I google best movies in 2017,etc., I looked for movies that got high score in imdb
And by that I chanced upon some movies produced by Quentin Tarantino, who took no time in converting me to a loyal fanboy
I watch The Hateful Eight, Pulp Fiction, DJango Unchained, Kill Bill Vol 1, Kill Bill Vol 2, Reservoir Dogs
Mind you, I did not watch them in one go
The way I like it, is to have a list of movies, and I choose one to watch whenever I want to unwind
Recently, I watched "Inglourious Basterds"
And boy was I so freaking refreshed, because it is a damn good movie
Made better by me haven't watched a movie this decent for weeks
I actually watched the movie once when I was a young kid, or half of the movie as I recall
I think I stopped halfway because a lot of the time the actors speak non-English and I somehow got turned off haha
I was expecting a movie where a bunch of soldiers went in to kick Nazis ass, instead I got lots and lots of dialogue which bored me to death
Alright, I was a 15 year old boy dun judge my short attention span
Now being a 24 young adult, who appreciate good acting, I find this movie a genuine timeless masterpiece
You know 20 years from now, after God know how far CGI have advanced, movies that are still fxcking enjoyable will be those that centered on good acting, good ambiance building, and good directing
As I always say, I am not a professional movie critics whatsoever
Just a casual movie lover :P
First thing I like about the movie, the cast omfg
I was so pleasantly surprised by the involvement of some of the actors, because I only recignize Brad Pitt and Christopher Waltz in the poster (as I said, the poster heavily look like a movie center on the Basterds killing Nazis)
I like Brad Pitt, he is okay for me
I fuxcking LOVE Christopher Waltz, he never disappoint
Daniel Bruhl, I know him from "Rush", fxcking amazing to see him
Michael Fassbender, from "X Men : First Class"
Eli Roth who play Sergeant Donny is funny
Some said a movie is only as good as its villain, thank God for creating Christopher Waltz (and Quentin Tarantino), he make some of the most tension-filled scene by just talking
The tension is so great that I have to fast forward sometimes because I have a weak heart haha
I enjoyed the scene in the bar as well
Merely just 3 American undercover soldiers trying to fake their way out as a Nazi Major probed and played a game with them
And of course eventually it turns to a shoot out
But Quentin Tarantino made 10 min + of conversation more fun to watch than The Avengers kicking Thanos ass in my opinion
Also, I dunno, but listening to incomprehensible foreign language (German in this case) is plus point for me
This movie take place in a parallel timeline manner
Some of the main characters never even meet
For example, Shosanna and The Basterds never know each others though they have a common motive
The story between Shosanna and Fedrick Zoller ends in a way that is both beautiful and tragic
Fedrick is a Nazi soldier who has a crush on Shosanna
Shosanna is very hell bent on avenging the death of her family, so much so that she shot Fedrick in the back when Fedrick visited her at the critical moment of her Nazi mass murdering plan in her theather
However, after shooting Fedrick, she look as he acts on the movie screen (the theater was playing a film starring Fedrick when she shot him while they are in the projector room)
Fedrick's previous words kinda sink in,
"I am more than a uniform"
She turns Fedrick body, and gets shot by the dying man
Both of them die in each others' hands
All in all, I had so much fun watching this movie
The climax was not as good as DJango Unchained though, because maybe our Hero was never in any real peril
Though Aldo was caught by Colonel Hans Landa, he was constantly in the mercy of the Colonel that there isn't any comeback unless you count the ending scene
I revisit the bar scene a lot on Youtube, and also the scene where Donny beat a Nazi to death haha
Can't imagine what Quentin Tarantino will do with a Star Trek film in the future
