<Dangal>, OR <我的冠军女儿> OR <摔跤吧!爸爸>
One of the best film I have ever watched, yet so little publicity in Malaysia
Taiwan famous author, Giddens Ko strongly recommended this film on his facebook page
Since this film is about wrestling, and I like all kind of martial art, naturally I checked out the trailer
And I was blown away by the beautiful cinematography, the action scenes, and the hot blooded in your face music
Extremely interested, and no way to watch it in Malaysia, I resorted to searching online
And since it is in Tamil, I had to find one with English subtiltes
I settled with one that is not HD
It is maybe the best film ever produced from the Bollywood (again, highly unjustified, since it is the only Bollywood movie I watch)
Briefly it tells the story that a former national wrestler gave up his dream of competing for gold in Olympic, in order to provide to his family
Although he had high hope for his son to carry the torch, his wife gave birth to 4 girls in a row, which broke his dream, and he shoved all medals and his dream under the ground for life, or so he thought
Because one day, after seeing his daughters beat up a guy, he realized that a gold is a gold, regardless of a girl or a boy win it
He began training his girls relentlessly, despite their initial unwillingness, and the unspoken unapproval of the whole village which practice very traditional Indian culture.
Thus, lots of funny scenes arise
This movie is super long, as half of it shows the transformation of two girls into two young, competent, and competitive wrestlers
and the other half is when the 2 daughters grow up and practice wrestling in national sport university, the conflicts with family, and the struggle to perform in international arena
Okay, again
What is stopping you from watching this film ?
Why are you not as interested to watch this film as you are with films like "Bad Genius", "Train to Busan", "Battleship"(I havent and dun intend to watch this), etc
My guess is, as a Malaysian, you don't give Tamil movie a chance at all
They are labeled as low grade movies by Malaysian, despite Bollywood being one of the largest movie production in the world
And because listening to Tamil automatically turns you off somehow
I understand, I was like this, and it is not very easy to spend 2 hours plus to see if you actually can accept it
But at least please recognize the achievement it has in oversea, China, Taiwan, and the U.S, I think those achievement at least warrant a view at its trailer, which then you can decide if you want to watch the film
